Sudbury Theatre Centre

Season 2011.2012

We're having a party... and you're all invited!

Welcome to Sudbury Theatre Centre!

Forty years ago, a group of Sudbury residents came up with a crazy idea – to start a professional theatre company in northern Ontario. This year we celebrate those brave visionaries, and all the actors, directors, designers, stage managers and production teams who helped to not only make that dream come true, but also to keep it alive. Like any marriage, there have been good times and bad, but through it all, one thing has kept it going –the magic of live professional. And we owe that success to you, our audiences.

We start our season with the wacky and wonderful stage adaptation of the Alfred Hitchcock thriller The 39 Steps… Hitchcock meets Monty Python! Next up is one of the classics of 20th century theatre, Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot. The meaning of life has never been presented with so much thought and so much humour. Our holiday celebration brings the family fairy tale Beauty and the Beast to the stage. The perfect love story for an anniversary season. The new year starts with a return visit by Walt Wingfield in Wingfield Lost and Found. Audiences have been asking that Walt make a return to STC and we are thrilled to present the latest chapter in the Wingfield saga. A story of new beginning is perfect to help us celebrate. Lawrence & Holloman turns the idea of friendship on its head, in a dark comedy that challenges a man’s bright and positive view of the world, with terrible and hilarious results. The party ends with the Tony Award-winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone, that started as a wedding gift and went on to take Broadway by storm.

So, join us as we party all year long to celebrate 40 Years of Make Believe. It won’t be a party without YOU!
