
Doubt is an affecting, gripping play challenging the audience to decide if parish priest Father Flynn of a Catholic school in the Bronx has been abusing his position as well as the school’s first black student. Not an open and shut case, it is well beyond a reasonable doubt.

JANET BAILEY as Mrs. Muller
In the critically acclaimed series Slings and Arrows, Bailey played soap opera diva Barbara Gorman, and in Brent Butt’s latest pilot, Bailey played a lead role as the confident, yet quirky owner of Piker’s Publishing Firm, Joyce Piker. A graduate of the Neighbourhood Playhouse in New York City, Janet studied under the tutelage of Sanford Meisner. Quickly, her career led to roles in stage and feature films. Her work in television has garnered her four Gemini nominations. After a 12 year absence, Janet is thrilled to return to the stage in the role of Mrs. Muller in STC’s Doubt.

GORDON BOLAN as Father Flynn

Recent theatre credits include How It Works (Theatre NorthWest); Reesor (Toronto Fringe); Miracle of St. Anthony (Young Centre Toronto); Pelee (SummerWorks Festival, Toronto); 36 Views (Berkeley Theatre, Toronto); Possible Worlds (Magnus Theatre); Romeo and Juliet (Flower City Theatre). Film and Television credits include The Sentinel (with Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland); The Man, and Tilt. Gordon would like to dedicate his performance to the memory of Azra Young, Phoebe Conway, and Fergus Conway.

Since graduating from the B.F.A. Acting Program at the University of Windsor, Shannon has been performing and creating her own work in her native Toronto. Recent credits include King Lear, Comedy of Errors (Driftwood Theatre); Famous Remains of Piggy Palace (Chaos Factory); A Christmas Carol, Twelfth Night (The Rose); At the Core (Buddies in Bad Times); and The Hope Chest (Whale Riders Program at the Tarragon Theatre). Shannon would like to thank David for this wonderful opportunity to examine Doubt.

Elva is so glad to return to STC with our brand new A.D. and thrilled to be doing Doubt. Recent favourite roles include Nat in Rabbit Hole, the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet (STC); Isobel in Kitchen Witches, Esther in Kilt, Nana in For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again and Anne Langton in The Bush-Ladies. Continuing television roles include Road to Avonlea, Riverdale and Queer as Folk. Major film award nominations for Anne’s Story and The Terry Fox Story.

David, new Artistic Director of the Sudbury Theatre Centre, was previously Artistic Director of Showboat Festival Theatre in Port Colborne for five seasons. He completed his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre at UBC, Vancouver, in 2008. David is happy to be back at STC after having been in its touring company throughout Northern Ontario, including James Bay and lower Hudson’s Bay in 1989. The adventure continues!

Shauna is delighted to be SM’ing her eighth performance at STC and to be reunited with David Savoy. A few past favourites she SM’d here were Sylvia, Problem Child and Forever Plaid. Shauna last worked with David at Showboat Theatre SM’ing Over the River and Through the Woods, and Sherlock’s Last Case. She has spent the last four summers production stage managing at The Blyth Festival. Shauna sends her love and gratitude to her parents and dear friends.

Geofrey has designed 27 and written four STC shows over the last nine years. “I have always enjoyed my time here in Sudbury and am delighted that David Savoy has invited me back. Sudbury has really become my artistic home.” A graduate of the National Theatre School, Geofrey has worked in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, New York and most recently at the Neptune Theatre in Halifax. He has designed operas, ballets and mime shows in addition to plays and musicals.

Previous lighting design credits include Sweeney Todd, A Year With Frog and Toad, The Miser, Buddy Holly, and The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged) (STC); Memories of the Rat Pack (Port Stanley Festival Theatre); Nijinsky: Through a Window (The MT Space); Marat/Sade, Mimetic Flesh (University of Waterloo Drama Department).
