His Play - Your Say
Published on October 11, 2011 filed under STC 2011 2012
There might be ways to win friends and influence others, but how about influencing a writer and his play? What in the world am I talking about? It’s theatre week and the STC is bringing you something you just might not see on an average Sunday.
This Sunday, October 16 at 7pm you will have a chance to be part of a staged dramatic reading of Receiver of Wreck, an award-winning play by Matt Heiti. A group of professional actors under the leadership of director Bill Lane will rehearse for three days before presenting the show at 7 pm Sunday. (Thank you, Pat The Dog Playwriting Centre for funding this project!)
Step 1: Call and book your free ticket. (only 30 seats) Step 2: Come and sit and listen to a professionally directed and professionally read script. Step 3: Stay afterward to give input about how you felt about the play.
Receiver of Wreck, a new work by resident playwright Matthew Heiti, won Pat the Dog Playwriting Centre’s 24-hour competition last fall and was workshopped in Waterloo this past spring.
Receiver of Wreck is about a shoe salesman chops off his foot with an axe. An aesthetician who has hers amputated by an outboard motor. At opposite ends of the same country, staring out at two different oceans, two people each lose something on the same day and are sent crashing together toward the dark heart of Canada. Inspired by the Salish Sea human foot discoveries, Receiver of Wreck is a grotesque comedy about human waste and the mystic potential of change.
If you are keen on script-writing, interested in staged dramatic readings, or even if you just want to “have a say”, call and book your seat. Maybe one day you can say that you had something to do with a great play presented at STC.
